1) Tree Branch
I chose this picture because I thought it stood out from all of the other ones. It's bright colors and interesting focus point were what I found were the main reasons for the picture being so interesting. This photo shows a lot of depth. The depth is shown by the blur of the picture and not being able to fully see how far back the branch is going. I used auto focus for this and I held the button down half way to let the camera focus and I adjusted where the square on the screen was and put it over the tip of the branch to make it have that focus point. The camera lighting mostly depended on the sun. Where I stood also affected the light because of shadows. If I were to stand in the wrong spot or in front of the sun, it could cause shadows or even a photo that turned out too dark. For the point of view of the photo, I got really close to the ground and the branch, this is where I used the flower setting. I was able to capture every detail in the broken branch almost as if it looks 3d.
2) Seascape
The compositional elements that were used in this photo were point of view and depth. Depth being the different focus points in each region of the picture. Technically my camera lighting was controlled by the sunlight, but my camera was on auto, so it automatically adjusted to the correct light setting anyway. Distance and point of view are important in this photo. The point of view was on a rock outside. I made it so that it was behind some grass, so you could sort of imagine you were there. It is not just the subject holding the point of view, you get a full effect of everything that is there. I didn't worry much about distance, because where I was, I could see my main focus, the swan, or the dock, and the whole background as well. The mood of this photo is peaceful like a hot summer day, walking along a path near the water. It also gives you a good feel for nature and the animals surrounding us. I chose this one because I thought it was strong in many different ways.
3) Concert
This picture was one of my favorite pictures I had taken. In my photo, it contains composition elements such as depth, repetition, and point of view. The shutter speed was very slow to capture the different points of his performance. The focus is mainly on him leaning forward singing into the microphone. This is the only part exactly in focus. My camera lighting was controlled by me because I was using manual. I didn't play around with it too much because I had flash, but if I didn't have flash, the subject would have been to dark where I would have had to switch some things manually. My point of view was from the side because that is where I was in the crowd. If I was in a different place, the whole photo would have been very different. The subject holds the viewers attention but moving around while the camera is slowly taking the picture, so that there are 3 different point of views at once.
4) Accordion Strap
I think this is one of the strongest photos I had taken this half of the year. With my free periods, I would go into the art room to make some photographs and when I found out there was an accordion, I was over excited to figure out what kind of pictures I wanted to take with it. It was not as easy of a task as it may look but through it I was able to present depth or field, pattern, and texture. I had to change the aperture in order to make the depth of field noticeable. In this, It is the center straps that are in focus. The two buckles in a row, seeming like symmetrical buckles show rhythm. On these buckles there is a smooth material that looks like you can almost reach into the photo and touch it, touch the texture. My point of view for this was straight on with the strap, I used the macro lens to get really close to the strap and take this photo. It could have had a different outcome if I had taken the picture from a downward or sideways view because the focal point and/or patterns would change. I think something artistic about this photo is that even though I'm not a musician, I feel like I am playing delicate music for everybody when using instruments to take pictures that I am very proud of.
5) Tree
For this picture, I thought it stood out from the rest because the main focus takes up almost the whole frame. Some important compositional elements I see in this are lines, texture, and framing. The branches all leading outwards in different directions but coming from the same place in the middle causes lines. These lines become very confusing if you look at them for too long. Moving outward from the tree it brings you to the leaves. These leaves show so much texture just through the color of the leaves. The green leaves seem to be softer and smoother as opposed to the orange and yellow branches which seem more bold and would seem to have a crunchy touch to them. The fact that the big tree and the pice of the tree takes up almost the whole photo comes in hand with the framing factor. The picture is framed so that where I want you to be focused, you are forced to focus there, unless of course you are someone who finds their focus is going right to the background at the light blue sky. The light in this photo is shown very well. I think my point of view which was from many feet away from the tree and at a lower level effected the light because I was able to get an angle where you can see the brightness of the sun reflecting off the top middle leaves. The sunlight gives the picture a brighter, happier feeling. Something about this picture that surprised me was that every color and branch is shown very distinctly, especially how the leaves and branches in contrast with each other.
6) Shadow
I chose this photo because I thought it came out good in a batch of awful photos. For this assignment, I had a lot of trouble with finding things to photograph because the most obvious shadows would just pass me by. Though I did have many struggles, I thought this was a good photo. Some compositional elements in this photo would be rhythm, leading lines, and texture Rhythm is shown through the reoccurrence of the wind chime on the ceiling. The chimes and string show the leading lines, but the strings also show texture because you can see exactly the soft texture of them with the small pieces sticking out. I could have chosen any point of view for my picture but I wanted to approach it at a diagonal angle because I felt it showed off the shadow better. I had to use a very fast shutter speed for this photo because without flash it is easy to get a blur in your photo.
